Collections
A collection groups some of your products under one address in your store, /collections/ followed by the collection's handle. Deleting a collection never deletes its products.
Before you start
Collections are part of the Pro and Enterprise plans. On other plans, the Collections card in Apps takes you to the plans page instead. See Subscription and billing.
Create a collection
- Open Apps and click Collections.
- In Create collection, enter a Handle, for example
summer-sale. Use lowercase Latin letters, digits and single hyphens, up to 80 characters. The handle becomes the collection's address in your store and must be unique among your collections. A few handles are reserved and are refused with "This handle is reserved and cannot be used". - Enter a title in at least one of Title (Arabic), Title (French) and Title (English).
- Optionally add a Description in each language and an Image. The image is a banner shown on the collection page and in link previews.
- To make this a sub-collection, pick a Parent collection. Collections nest two levels deep: a sub-collection cannot have sub-collections of its own, and a collection that already has sub-collections cannot be nested under another.
- Leave the switch on Active to publish the collection, or turn it to Inactive to prepare it without showing it.
- Click Save collection.
The collection appears in Your collections. To start another one, click New collection.
Add products from the collection
You can also manage a collection's products from the collection itself:
- In Your collections, click Edit collection. Products in this collection appears below the form.
- Search for a product by name and click Add.
- Use the arrows to put the products in the order buyers should see, and the cross to remove one.
- Click Save products. Nothing changes until you save.
Add products to a collection
You add products from each product's form:
- Open Products and edit the product.
- In Product Information, find Collections.
- Tick each collection the product belongs to. The change is saved as soon as you tick or untick a box.
The Collections field appears only for a product that has been saved at least once. For a new product, save it first. If you have no collections yet, use Manage collections to create one.
When you import products from a CSV file, the collections column can also place products in collections, listed by handle. A handle that does not exist yet creates an active collection with that handle as its title, which you can rename afterwards. See Product import.
Manage your collections
In Your collections, each row shows the collection's title and address. Sub-collections are indented under their parent.
- The switch publishes or hides the collection. An inactive collection's address shows a "not found" page. The sub-collections of an inactive parent drop out of your sitemap; a sub-collection that is itself active can still be opened by its own address, without a link back to its parent.
- The up and down arrows reorder a collection among its neighbours at the same level. This is the order buyers see.
- Edit collection loads the collection into the form. Change it, then click Update collection, or click Cancel editing.
- Delete collection removes the grouping after you confirm. The products stay in your catalog. Deleting a parent keeps its sub-collections and turns them into top-level collections.
What buyers see
The collection page lists the collection's active products, 24 to a page, with links to the previous and next page. Buyers can sort by newest, lowest price or highest price; the default is the order you set. A collection page also lists its active sub-collections, and a sub-collection links back to its parent.
Buyers can browse every top-level collection at /collections. Your store also publishes a sitemap at /sitemap.xml listing your home page, collections and active products, so search engines find them. Link previews of a collection use its image, or the first product's picture when it has none.
You can also place a collection on your storefront pages with the page builder; see Storefront design.
