AI Product Description Writer

Instead of writing a product description by hand, you can generate one automatically with AI from the same add/edit product form, based on the product details you've already entered.

Where to find it

When you open the Add Product or Edit Product form in your dashboard, you'll see a card titled "AI description writer" among the product fields. It's available on the Starter plan and above; if your store is on the Free (pay-as-you-go) plan, this feature isn't available to you yet.

What it needs to generate a description

  • Product name and category: required. As long as either is empty, the "Generate description" button stays disabled and shows "Add product name and category first."
  • Key selling points: optional. One benefit per line (up to 10 lines) — for example: rechargeable battery, quiet airflow, compact for travel.
  • Price and old (compare-at) price: if entered in the form, these are sent automatically as extra context to help the AI write a more accurate description.
  • Existing description (if any): if the product already has a short or detailed description, it's sent as context too, so the AI improves it rather than ignoring it.
  • Product images: if you've added product images (the main image or images inside the description) that haven't been uploaded to the server yet, the system uploads them automatically when you click "Generate description" and uses them as extra context. If an image fails to upload, you'll see a message asking you to check the failed images and retry, rather than the error passing silently and the description generating without it.

Cost

Next to the card's title, you'll see the credit cost of each generation, e.g. "Cost: X credits". This cost is deducted from your store's credit balance on every successful generation — whether or not you end up applying the generated text, and even if you generate more than once before deciding.

Generating and applying a description

  1. In the add/edit product form, make sure the product name and category are filled in at minimum.
  2. (Optional) Add key selling points in the dedicated field.
  3. Click "Generate description" and wait for the "Generated copy" preview to appear — it includes a short description and a detailed description, and sometimes an SEO suggestion.
  4. Review the generated copy, then click "Apply copy" — or "Replace current copy" if the product already has a description written.
  5. A confirmation message, "Applied to product form.", appears once applied.

Good to know

  • Applying the generated text fully overwrites the product form's current "short description" and "detailed description" fields; there's no undo besides rewriting them by hand or closing the form without saving.
  • Applying only updates the open product form — it isn't saved yet. You still need to save the product afterward for the change to take effect.
  • The writer can't be used while the product is being saved; the button is temporarily disabled during that time.
